I started this piece after I really did apologize to a cup that I did not knock over when no one else was around (that sounds suspicious but it’s true!) and after talking to some women friends about how our frequent nonsense apologies. I staged photos of myself, then lightly pencil traced each frame and shaded each with ink. The process took way longer than it should have so I made it part of my MDS monthly goal to finish it. I debated whether or not to add text because I felt the narrative flow felt clear but after showing it to a few of my fellows, I realized it did not communicate the influence of the patriarchy specifically enough without words.
